Sean & Kelly's Wedding

On Saturday we attended our first Southern wedding a long held wish we have had. I had originally thought that this was our first American wedding but Andrew reminded me that we flew to Seattle to attend Kirk and Bethany's wedding in December 07. (I guess Kirk's wedding still felt somewhat Australian!)

Our good friend Steve presided over the ceremony at Myrtle Grove EPC, the first church we visited here in Wilmington. We then dropped off Lucy at Miss Betsy's house for a partial sleepover. (Betsy I hope Desi has recovered from Lucy's overamorous attempts to catch him in a bag!) And we preceded on to the Watermark Marina for the reception, which took some finding. Henry was awesomely asleep until someone spoke into the microphone. From that point on he was AWAKE but having a great time cuddling with various friends. We had a Southern buffet (chicken, pasta, salad, apple pie and to drink sweet tea on tap). So what were the differences? It is hard to make blanket statements as each wedding is as different as the individuals involved. However some Southern traditions: the grooms' best man is his father, lots of bridesmaids and groomsmen, at the church the groomsmen usher lady guests to their seat, family candles are used to light a new family candle. As with all weddings there were lots of well dressed happy people, a good looking bridal couple, proud parents and dancing! Congratulations Sean and Kelly!
