All partied out

So there you have the update for the last couple of months.

Many more months went into all the planning.

Now we are gearing up for our big trip to Oz! Details coming soon.

Mothers Day 2012

I had a lovely start to Mothers Day with a made-to-order breakfast.

The kids gave me a yoghurt machine (and the first batch was according to Lucy scrumdiddlyumptious!)

Lucy's Art Party: The Art

We had 5 art stations set up for the party guests.

Did you see the rainbow skittles that marked each station?
Lucy spent an hour sorting them.

The girls drew self portraits, painted a watercolour, sculpted a bird, made shaving cream art and had their faces painted.

The shaving cream art was the highlight and I was busy painting faces and arms!

Lucy's Art Party: The Photobooth

we set up a photobooth for Lucy's party, reusing the backdrop from the Little Miss Sunshine party.

This time we had different photo props including rabbit ears, various glasses and hats.

Lucy's Art Party: The decorations & food

Jackson Pollack inspired cupcakes
At the end of the party we invited the parents to attend a gallery show to view the artwork.

We served sparkling apple cider and finger food and then admired the artwork.

A rainbow of paper dahlias

Lucy with her birthday sign (we started with it when she turned 2!)

The start of the dessert table

The party favours included some glitter glue sticks

Food included a rainbow fruit platter (on the left), cheese platter and a deli meat platter.
Then we had apple cider in champagne glasses

The art work from the party decorated the walls.

The completed dessert table.  Bags under the table to take the artwork home.

Lucy's Art party: The playlist

Finding art related songs turned out to be a little more tricky than the sunshine list!

First I started with rainbow songs.

Then I trawled through lists of art related songs on various blogs.  However most of these were for adults and thus some lyrics were not appropriate.

However I think we ended up with a good list and even a song that mentions Chagall.

Lucy's Art Party: The cake

With the rainbow theme in mind I made an 8 layer rainbow cake.

It took a really long time to cook all the layers as I only had 2x9" pans but icing it didn't take long at all.

The trick was freezing the thin layers so that they were easy to work with.

It was impressive to cut the cake! It went from just an ordinary white buttercream cake to an explosion of colour!

Lucy's 6th birthday

I decided this year that Lucy would enjoy an art party.

In that vain we had a rainbow birthday celebration.  Full of colour and fun!

Lucy attended school (in her flamingo dress!) but beforehand she requested a breakfast of bacon and eggs.  She took GF muffins to school to share with her classmates.

I had lunch with Lucy at school in the cafeteria (an eye opening experience!) and then met Lucy at the bus stop with a huge butterfly balloon and purple balloons. The teachers gave her a special birthday hat to wear and a card.

Lucy had lots of fun opening her presents and enjoyed all the arty presents from her family in Australia. We gave her a suitcase among other things with her name on it so that she can travel to Australia in style!

For dinner we had home made GF gyoza plus other Chinese delicacies followed by a lemon bundt cake with strawberry coulis and double cream.

Andrew's birthday

And finally we get to Andrew's birthday.

Poor fellow, his birthday is squashed between Felicity's and Lucy's.

But he did get at least 24 hours where the attention was solely on him
and not any other parties.

He wasn't neglected mind you.  He ate lamb for breakfast, lunch AND dinner. He got lots of presents (particularly elephant ones) and he took an annual leave day.

And on top of that I made his favourite cake - a triple chocolate mousse cake.

Felicity's 1st birthday

We did quite a lot of celebrating and then we got to Felicity's ACTUAL birthday!

We continued with the yellow theme...

We were a little over cake so went with Felicity's favourite food -
homemade strawberry icecream.

Look at this face after just a mouthful of icecream!

Felicity's 1st birthday playdate

we had a small playdate with our mom's group for Felicity

we ate gluten free apple cinnamon muffins (with the little miss felicity cupcake toppers!), pretzels and fruit

the jumpy house was fun for the kids but we had to have separate times
for the babies and the bigger kids

isn't it a great photo of Henry peering at the food table!

Little Miss Sunshine: The Invitations

The invitations were so cute!

We cut out Little Miss Sunshine shapes and added the details to the back.

Sounds simple but we spent many hours working on the computer template and then with the cardstock to get it just right.

We printed a photo of Felicity on sticker paper for the back.

Little Miss Sunshine: The Playlist

We had a very fun time working out a sunshine music playlist.

Lots of ideas throughout the internet but none of them had 'Little Ray of Sunshine' which surprises me because it is perfect for a little girls first birthday.

Enjoy!

Little Miss Sunshine: The Presents

After the party and various naps Felicity opened her presents
(with a bit of help from big brother and big sister)

So many fun things to play with

Kudos to the Jones for the beef jerky!

Little Miss Sunshine: The Photobooth

Our makeshift photobooth invited guests to answer the question 'Who are you?'

We provided some options of different characters including Little Miss Sunshine,
Mr Grumpy and Mr Bounce

Little Miss Chatterbox was very popular

Lucy and Henry had a wonderful time hamming it up for the camera

I was Little Miss Busy, of course!

Little Miss Sunshine: The Pizza

What is a party at our place without wood-fired pizza?

This time we bought a tent with flyscreens to put over the ingredients table

Henry assumed his role of dough rolling inspector and then as deputy fire chief.
The boy will be in charge soon
