- Andrew came home from work the other day, I was doing something in the kitchen and he asked me to put something in the trash! In the trash! Don't you mean the garbage bin or the rubbish?
- We were sitting at the dining table and Andrew asked if we had any napkins. I said NO. And we don't have any serviettes either!

I mentioned all this to my housemate and said that Andrew looks to have gone native first, and she commented, "She'll cave eventually and she won't even notice!"
As for Andrew, dare I say it's "too late...!" heheh...
I have to know ~ what do you call napkins?
Napkins = serviettes!
Will I cave in? Hard to say. Of course I use the words napkin, diaper and sweater when talking to Americans. But it doesn't feel natural and I don't use them at home. I think there are some words that are ingrained which will never be changed into the local dialect. Nicole Kidman taught Tom Cruise to call the 'tv' the 'telly'. We know that we are moving back to Oz some time so we don't need to assimilate.
BTW of course Andrew has gone native first! He works with Americans all day. Lucy and I stay home together most days and the only television we watch is Playschool!
