Check this out! Wilmington Tea Room on national TV!

Yeah for friends! Alexis took me to three places around Wilmington in one morning that I hadn't been to before - Blue Moon Art & Craft gallery, The Pavillions (also a gallery) and Chris' Cosmic Kitchen. I had been meaning to try Chris' after reading about it winning a best breakfast award and now I have and it was good! Although we didn't find what we were looking for it was a good chance to get out and see some more of this town.

On a side note Alexis owns the Wilmington Tea Room which was featured in a recent 'Jon and Kate plus Eight' episode on TV. Awesome!!!! If you come to Wilmington make sure you visit the tea room and order the full tea - the ooey gooey chocolate brownies are fantastic! Ben Hur

Although we don't watch much TV (except The Office Season 6! and Amazing Race 15!) we do have a netflix subscription. I convinced Andrew that we should watch Ben Hur together, all 3 hours and 20 minutes. I didn't have a lot of expectations for the movie but we both agree that it is fantastic and rivetting. We had to watch it in 3 sittings and we were anxious between sittings to get back to it to find out what happens. Go rent it and enjoy!

Weekend happenings

We had a reasonably busy weekend!

Friday night - Dinner at Boca Bay with Silex crew. A great night catching up with everyone and showing off Henry. He was very social and had lots of cuddles around the table. Great food but such big portions, the seven layer chocolate cake was literally seven layers! Lucy stayed home and was a good girl with Miss Dianne.

Saturday lunch - Pizza party at our house for the management team. We were hoping it wouldn't rain but it did. I do have a clean garage now as I made Andrew clean it in preparation (we didn't use it in the end) Great pizzas but miserable weather, spent most of the time in my gumboots ferrying food back and forth. Given the rain, after the party we had movie afternoon with "Wallace and Gromit"

Sunday lunch - Lunch for the four of us at Macaroni Grill (Lucy's choice) followed by naps and helicopter testing

Henry slept well both Friday and Saturday nights and I got 7 hours sleep both times! However last night he was back to waking up a couple of times.

Crossword winner

I've been doing crosswords for a long time. On the train on the way to work I could do 'The Australian' crossword between Sutherland and Kogarah stations. Then I started doing Lovatts crossword competitions but never won anything. A few months ago I started to fill in the competition entry forms with my parents address and guess what? I won a prize last month. And guess what? I won a prize this month too! The most exciting part (the prizes weren't that exciting) was that the first prize was for a crossword call 'the stinker' which is the hardest one. I'm just glad to see that I got the entry correct!

Goodbye

A now a sad blog entry as we say good bye to our friends Jackie, Tim, Ben and Mitchell who are moving to Tampa. Alexis, Monica, Jackie and I got together at Kornerstone pizza for a farewell dinner complete with molten chocolate lava cakes and gelato. Goodbye and good luck!

Weekend work

This weekend we worked on the pizza oven, grouting and concreting. Whilst the whole area looks finished, it is not! The finishing jobs seem to take the longest and it will be some time until it is DONE.

Helipcopter testing

Andrew has flown and crashed his new helicopter. If you want to see the video footage just email him! Thankfully the broken part was an inexpensive one and he has now repaired the damage. More flying ahead!

Hooray for new experiences!

Life with a newborn is a small, slow world. Sometimes those 24 hour blocks called days just seem to merge together. So I have been trying to insert fun little things into life to differentiate days.

Here are some of the new things we done in the past few weeks:
  • visited Empie park and Halyburton park, both of which we've never been to before. Empie has really cool play equipment
  • ate at Ken's Bagels, "The best bagels in Wilmington". Lucy had a 'curious george' bagel which consisted of honey cream cheese, peanut butter and banana
  • drank pomegranate honey coolers
  • bought too many Italian pastries from La Gemma
  • hosted a 'Friday afternoon drinks' playdate where the mums sat in the screened porch and the kids played in the backyard
  • baked a roasted tomato and goat cheese tart, for the playdate. So so good

Weekend fun

We had a great weekend and even though we are all tired, some more than others, we are all happy.

On Saturday we headed to the beach, Henry's first time. It was amazing how much stuff we took but thankfully most of it fitted into Lucy's wagon (though she did say it was very squashy!) Henry spent some time in his travel cot and some time in mama's arms sleeping. He also had a few minutes in the water until Dad let a small wave crash into him and he got water up his nose. Lucy and Andrew made sandcastles and went boogie boarding. Overall we had a fabulous time and the weather is just perfect at the moment. After the beach we headed over to Sweet and Savoury for lunch.

On Sunday we went to church where Lucy's preschool class was singing a few songs on stage. Although she stood on the stage with the other kids, Lucy didn't sing but just chewed her hair. However this was progress as previously she wouldn't stand on the stage. After church we headed over to Tim & Alexis' house for a bbq and swim. Lucy had a great time in the pool, Henry had a great time being cuddled and the adults enjoyed sitting around chatting.

Tomato Horn Caterpillars

These disgusting caterpillars attacked our tomato plants and ate all the leaves. Andrew kept a few in Lucy's butterfly catcher until we found out what they were. He then cut them in half with a pair of scissors and they spurted bright green goo everywhere. Doubly disgusting!

Cycling

Andrew was lent a unicycle so here are Lucy and Andrew going out cycling. Andrew stopped a lot of traffic on our street!

Weekend rain

We had Labor Day long weekend!

Saturday - Andrew and Lucy went to the hardware store to make crafts in the morning. In the afternoon they went out on Rick's boat to go crabbing (and caught two crabs). They had an awesome time swimming and playing.

Sunday - We went to church, had lunch at home and watched the US Open tennis.

Monday - It rained and rained so we stayed home and just spent time together. Lucy watched Chitty Chitty Bang Bang (totally different story to the book)

Fiona and Henry are tired and still settling into a (non) routine. Blogging will continue to be random until things settle down more.
